There are approximately 36 million migraine sufferers. They are severe and are usually felt on one side of the head, and are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, smell and visual disturbances.  They can last anywhere from 4 to 72 hours.  There is some mystery as to the exact cause of migraines, but some individuals are more susceptible than others, and they can also be brought on by “triggers.”

Some common triggers include:  hormonal fluctuations, stress, blood sugar imbalances, skipping meals, dehydration, food additives (e.g. MSG), foods such as chocolate, alcohol and caffeine, lack of sleep, medications, weather changes (temperature and barometric pressure changes), exposure to bright lights and physical activity.

Knowing and avoiding your triggers can keep migraines at bay, but also supplementing with magnesium is another proactive measure you can take.  Studies have shown that a magnesium deficiency is prevalent in migraine sufferers.  In fact, up to 50% of migraine patients have low levels of magnesium during a migraine attack. (1)   In one study, those taking 600 mg or oral magnesium saw a 41.6 percent reduction in migraine attack frequency, compared to only 15.8 % in the placebo group. (2)

One of the most effective ways to increase your magnesium levels is via Magnesium Oil.  Used in foot soaks or spraying on the bottom of the feet (most efficient path for absorption), it is readily absorbed without the laxative effects or stomach upset prevalent with high doses of oral magnesium. Magnesium can be taken orally in a pill, powder, liquid or topically in an oil form.  With magnesium, migraine relief could just be a mineral away.
