Food for Thought

More than just a pretty face

We all value the skin on our faces because it reflects our image of vitality and health. The look of our skin feeds into our desire to look good to others who see us on a daily basis AND it has a more important role to play.
Skin is the largest organ we have and plays a vital role in our health and wellbeing. Our skin acts like a huge sponge absorbing any substance that it comes into contact with making it a good delivery system to our blood stream. The skin is so effective at absorption that it can even affect our taste buds. To prove this, try rubbing a raw clove of garlic on the bottom of your foot and see how long it takes before you start to taste it. Doctors have been using skin patches to deliver medications thru the skin and into the bloodstream without injections. Another mechanism is using a gel to rub on the skin and deliver the medication. These methods are revolutionizing the delivery of drugs for many purposes including pain relief, birth control and to stop smoking.

Keeping this in mind it is wise to read the labels of anything and everything that you are putting on your skin, including your scalp as it also is skin and absorbs just as readily as the rest of your body. When you see ingredients listed that are long and hard to pronounce, many which contain numbers, ask yourself what these ingredients are and how safe are they?

Here are some tips for taking care of your skin that you may not have thought of:
   * Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm – rather than hot – water.
   * Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers. Products that are made from natural ingredients are the best.
   * Hair care products like shampoos & conditioners should be mild.
   * Avoid using excessive chemical styling products such as hair sprays and gels. The more natural the better.
   * Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
*   Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.

   * Moisturize dry skin. If your skin is dry, use a moisturizer that fits your skin type. For daily use, consider a moisturizer that contains SPF.

Take care of your skin and it will take care of you!

Food for Thought

Cleaning without chemicals

When we buy commercial cleaning products, we expect them to do one thing: clean!!!
Cleaning products are among the most toxic substances that are found in the home. Most household cleaners are hazardous to health and the environment, and are found in a wide array of scents, soaps, detergents, bleaching agents, bathroom, glass, drain cleaners, etc. They are used to keep our homes clean and safe! Right? WRONG!!!

These chemicals are hazardous to our health: they can affect our central nervous system, reproductive systems, and act as endocrine disruptors. They cause headaches, backaches, stiff joints, nausea, diarrhea, asthma or allergy attacks, rashes, dizziness, memory loss, sudden mood swings, burns-internally and externally, ADD/ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, and can ultimately cause cancer.

Did you know there is no federal regulation of chemicals in household products, and the ingredients nor products are required to meet any sort of safety standard. Most products bear the warning “Keep Out of Reach of Children”, so we think because we don’t allow ourselves or our children to ingest these products that we are unharmed.

Did you know the average household contains about 62 toxic chemicals? We are exposed to them routinely? Manufactures say trace amounts of these toxic ingredients aren’t likely to be a problem, but routine exposure and in combinations with other chemicals adds to our body’s toxic burden.

Toxic chemicals enter our body through our largest organ, the skin, and by breathing them in, or ingesting them. A few examples:
  1. They linger in the air we breathe in via vapors or gases of the cleaning supplies we use, or the scents that are plugged in. Inhaling fumes attack fatty tissues, e.g. the myelin sheath. Depending on what part of brain damaged affects what part of body is affected.
  2. They are absorbed through our skin, and then the rest of our body processes it, especially the liver.
  3. The chemicals are ingested via our food, our water supplies, household dust, or the residues left on dishes, cutlery, highchairs, and our floors. (Pets too)

These toxic and hazardous ingredients fall into three categories:
  1. Carcinogens- cause cancer and/or promote cancer growth.
  2. Endocrine disruptors- these mimic human hormones, confusing the body with false signals and alters normal hormone levels, or may change the way hormones travel throughout the body.
  3. Neurotoxins: these alter neurons (brain cells), affecting brain activity, causing a range of problems from headaches to ADD/ADHD or learning disabilities.

Listed below are just a few of the toxic substances that can be found in the products in our homes.
UNSAFE CHEMICALS – They ALL have several names they can also be listed under.

  1. PHTHALATES:
Found in: air fresheners, perfumes, plastics, dish soap, toilet paper, lotions, anything including the word “fragrance”
Health Risks: Endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, and cause hormonal abnormalities, thyroid disorders, birth defects, and reproductive problems, migraine and asthma trigger.

2. PERCHLOROETHYLENE (PERC):
Found in: Dry cleaning solutions, spot removers, and carpet and upholstery cleaners.
Health Risks: neurotoxins, carcinogen, usually the route of exposure is inhalation.

3.TRICLOSAN:
Found in: Most liquid dishwashing detergents and hand-soaps labeled “antibacterial”.

Health Risks: An aggressive antibacterial agent promoting growth of drug resistant bacteria, probable carcinogen and endocrine disruptor.

4. QUARTERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUNDS (QUATS):
Found in: Fabric softener liquids and sheets, and products labeled “antibacterial”.

Health Risks: Promote growth of drug resistant bacteria, skin irritants, contact dermatitis, and respiratory disorders.

  5. 2-BUTOXYETHANOL:
Found in: Window, kitchen and multipurpose cleaners, and gives the cleaner a sweet smell.

Health Risks: when inhaled can cause sore throats, and can contribute to narcosis, pulmonary edema and severe liver and kidney damage.

6. AMMONIA:
Found in: Polishing agents for bathroom fixtures, sinks and jewelry and in glass cleaner, and sold by itself.
Health Risks: A powerful irritants and it affects you right away, especially those with lung issues, breathing problems and asthma, and people can develop chronic bronchitis and asthma. Can cause kidney and liver damage. Creates poisonous gas when mixed with Clorox.

 7. CHLORINE:
Found in: Scouring powders, toilet bowl cleaners, mildew removers, laundry whiteners, household tap water.

Health Risks: Exposure via fumes, skin and ingestion. Consider this, chlorine is toxic enough to be a chemical weapon and categorized as a “choking agent”. Chlorine gas can cause difficulty breathing, chest pains, cough, eye irritation, increased heartbeat, rapid breathing, and death.

8. SODIUM HYDROXIDE:
Found in: Oven cleaners and drain openers

Health Risks: AKA lye, is extremely corrosive, serious eye exposure can result in blindness. If sodium hydroxide mist was breathed, permanent injury to the lungs may result. If a solution was swallowed, damage to the mouth, throat, and esophagus may cause permanent scarring, making swallowing difficult.

9. NONYLPHENOL ETHOXYLATES (NPE’s):
Found in: liquid laundry detergents, stain removers, all-purpose cleaners, air fresheners, toilet bowl cleaners, degreasers, and car wash products

Health Risks: Mimics the hormone estrogen, has been shown to stimulate the growth of human breast cancer cells and cause adverse reproductive effects.

10.COAL TAR DYES:
Found in: Most types of all cleaning products, hair dyes, and some medications (psoriasis and eczema). These dyes are in cleaning products and can be absorbed through the skin or ingested in the case of soap residue on dishes.
Health Risks: carcinogen-cancer of the lung, bladder, kidney and digestive tract and through skin exposure-skin cancer. Organ System Toxicity, neurological damage. Effects include emotional and sleep disturbances, as well as loss of coordination

May Class -  “Cleaning your house without chemicals”

Sunday May 7, 2017 3:00pm

Sunshine Yoga Shack

2240 Matlock Rd. Suite 102

Mansfield, TX. 76063

When we buy commercial cleaning products, we expect them to do one thing: clean!!! Cleaning products are among the most toxic substances that can be found in the average home. Most household cleaners are hazardous to health and the environment. We use a wide array of scents, soaps, detergents, bleaching agents, bathroom, glass, drain cleaners etc., to keep our homes clean and safe from germs. Unfortunately, these chemicals that bombard our life have hazards to our health. They can affect our central nervous system, reproductive systems, and act as endocrine disruptors. They can cause headaches, backaches, stiff joints, nausea diarrhea, asthma or allergy attacks, dizziness, memory loss, sudden mood swings, ADD/ADHD, and can ultimately cause cancer. The endocrine disruptor part alters normal hormone levels, or may change the way hormones travel through the body. Avoiding unsafe cleaning products is just as important as identifying safe ones.

Never fear, there are easy and inexpensive solutions. We are offering two classes to help teach about the adverse effects, give solutions, recipes, and products to help you make an informed choice to help your health and the health of your family.

Key Supplements to Help You Get The Most Out Of Your Workout
Good nutrition, adequate hydration, and sufficient rest are some of the basics for general good health, but are also vitally important to support and sustain your body during your workouts and physical activity.  Our bodies were built for regular physical movement.  Regular workouts and physical activity can alter the body’s need for certain nutrients.  There are specific nutrients that support energy production, build, repair, and maintain muscle, and fight inflammation.  To maintain or increase physical activity and workouts, consider a few key supplements:
Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs):  BCAAs are a group of amino acids – leucine, isoleucine, and valine.  These are specific for muscle growth and repair.  Isoleucine helps to shuttle glucose into the cells for energy.  Most amino acids are metabolized by the liver, but the BCAAs are directly metabolized by muscle tissue.  Supplementation of BCAAs before and after exercise has shown to decrease muscle damage and promote muscle-protein synthesis.  They also decrease muscle soreness.
B-vitamins:  The B-vitamins are necessary for cellular energy production, the synthesis of oxygen carrying red blood cells, normal immune function, and for building and repairing damaged tissue.  Athletes who have low vitamin B levels may not perform as well.  A quality B-complex supplement will help with energy levels and the continuous repair of tissues.
Fish Oil:  The omega-3 fats found in fish oil support recovery by reducing oxidative stress and post-exercise inflammation.  Omega-3s can minimize muscle soreness after strenuous strength-training exercise, and can reduce heart rate and oxygen consumption during exercise-without a decrease in performance.  They can also reduce cortisol levels and increase lean body mass.
Whether you are an elite athlete, a gym rate, or just beginning to exercise – you all share some of the same fitness goals: to strengthen your body, improve endurance, and increase overall wellbeing.  Taking the mentioned supplements, along with a nutrient dense diet, adequate sleep, staying hydrated- you can fine tune your body and get the most out of your fitness routine.  Come in to Eterna and ask how we can help you with your fitness goals and be……………….. “Your Doorway To Health”.

Food for Thought

What the heck is MTHFR?

What is MTHFR? “MTHFR” is not an abbreviation for a curse word, but a shortened form for Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase! And what does that mean? MTHFR is a gene and an enzyme. The MTHFR gene produces this enzyme that is necessary for properly using Folic Acid (vitamin B9). This enzyme is also important for converting homocysteine into methionine, which the body needs for proper metabolism and muscle growth and which is needed for glutathione creation. About 1 in every 2 people have a MTHFR gene mutation that highly reduces the ability to convert folic acid or even folate into a usable form. There are many variations of the mutation, depending on how the gene was passed down from the parents.
Is this genetic “defect” dangerous? Well no, not really; however, any sort of genetic mutation or variance does have the possibility of affecting your health. Knowing what this gene is and how it could affect you is the knowledge you need when seeking to protect your health.

What Happens When the MTHFR Gene is Defective?
Those with a defective MTHFR gene have an impaired ability to produce the MTHFR enzyme. This can make it more difficult to break down and eliminate not only synthetic folic acid but other substances like heavy metals.
Since folic acid can’t be converted into the usable form, it can build up in the body, which can raise levels of homocysteine. High homocysteine levels are associated with a higher risk in cardiovascular disease. This also affects the conversion to glutathione, which the body needs to remove waste and which is a potent antioxidant.
There is strong evidence that because of the effect on methylation, it can increase cancer risk, cardiovascular disease risk, risk of fetal development problems and more. It can also possibly contribute to or exacerbate other problems like autoimmune disease, mental issues and more.

When it’s all working right, the MTHFR gene begins a multi-step chemical breakdown process, aka methylation, which in simplified terms, is like this:
  • The MTHFR gene produces the MTHFR enzyme.
  • The MTHFR enzyme works with the folate vitamins (B9, folic acid), breaking it down from 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
  • 5-methyltetrahydrofolate helps convert the amino acid homocysteine down to another essential amino acid, methionine, which is used by your body to make proteins, utilize antioxidants, and to assist your liver to process fats. Methionine helps with depression and even inflammation. It also helps convert estradiol (E2) into estriol (E3)!
  • Methionine is converted in your liver into SAM-e (s-adenosylmethionine), which is anti-inflammatory, supports your immune system, helps produce then breakdown of your brain chemicals serotonin, dopamine and melatonin, and is involved in the growth, repair and maintenance of your cells.

MTHFR Mutation Symptoms and Signs
Although researchers still aren’t entirely sure which diseases and disorders an MTHRF mutation might contribute to most, evidence exists that the following health problems are tied to one of two primary forms of genetic MTHFR mutation:
  • Autism and other childhood learning developmental problems
  • ADHD
  • Down syndrome
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Spina bifida
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Autoimmune disorders and thyroid disorders
  • Addictions (alcohol and drug dependence for example)
  • Chronic pain disorders
  • Migraines
  • Heart problems, including low HDL “good” cholesterol levels and high homocysteine levels
  • Hormonal problems and fertility problems, including miscarriages and PCOS
  • Pulmonary embolisms
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Parkinson’s disease, other tremor disorders and Alzheimer’s disease
  • Strokes
  • Digestive problems, including irritable bowel syndrome
  • Problems during pregnancy, including preeclampsia and postpartum depression
The severity and type of symptoms that someone experiences depends on the variant of the mutation the person has, along with much how the ability to carry out methylation and make MTHFR enzymes is impacted. Some people produce up to 70 percent to 90 percent fewer enzymes than those without MTHFR mutations. Other experience much less drastic drops in enzyme levels, around 10 percent to 30 percent.
How to Get Tested for MTHFR Gene DefectsThough there are many symptoms that can be associated with an MTHFR defect, the symptoms can vary widely from person to person and only a test (blood or saliva) can verify a gene defect and the type. Talk with your doctor and ask if they are familiar with MTHFR, and if they are if they can test you. If not, listed below are some choices:
  1. The most definitive way to find out is do genetic testing. And a popular self-ordered test comes from23andme. Bonus: you get a LOT more genetic and ancestry information.
After the 23andme results come back, you’ll get “raw data” that you won’t be able to read. You will upload that data to any of the following, which in turn will give you what you need:
  • Live Wello, which gives a great deal of information to you based on 23and me, plus links to learn more about each gene’s potential problem.
  • Sterling Hill’s app  http://www.mthfrsupport.com/sterlings-app/ or you can contact her and pay for a call to help with interpretation of your genetics.
  • Genetic Genie, which will look at your methylation genetics just by reading your 23andMe raw data.
  • Though it doesn’t interpret the raw data the way Live Wello does above, Nutrahacker will tell you what supplements you need to take, and which ones plus more you need to avoid, due to your mutations. It’s very interesting!
2. Another clue is to do hair testing. Though genetic testing above is a must, it’s always interesting to see what heavy metals are not being broken down because of the MTHFR mutation, plus gives you a baseline to refer to later to see if your treatment is working.
3. Dr. Amy Yasko will test about 30 methylation SNP’s (single nucleotide polymorphisms)here. You may need a doctor’s prescription. It is considered to be a highly accurate test, but can be more expensive than the more popular 23andme test above.
A vast amount of genetic information can be obtained from www.promethease.com
Another good test to see which processes may not be doing their job properly: Methylation Pathways Panel.
Another informative test is the NutrEval, which will test your antioxidants, B Vitamins, digestive support, essential fatty acids, and minerals, plus amino acids via a urine collection.

MTHFR Solutions
Whether your doctor has determined that you have the MTHFR gene defect or you are experiencing similar symptoms related to the disorder, there are a few steps you can take to protect yourself. First, address any dietary and nutritional deficiencies. Consume a diet with folate-rich foods such as spinach, asparagus, chickpeas, beans, and broccoli. Make sure to replace folic acid with a methyl folate supplement, avoid exposure to environmental toxins which can tax the liver, and perform an occasional liver cleanse to facilitate the removal of toxins and wastes. Methyl folate may be an important supplement to implement in your daily health regime if you are suffering from methylation.

Focusing on gut health: Especially when the body has impaired ability to use certain nutrients, it is important to focus on gut health so that the body can absorb the nutrients from food as effectively as possible. Try to avoid antibacterial soaps, vegetable oils, processed grains and refined sugars and support the gut with fermented foods and homemade broth. This also helps avoid candida, which can make MTHFR related problems worse.
  • Avoiding environmental toxins as much as possible: Those with an MTHFR gene defect have an impaired ability to eliminate toxins. Try to avoid plastics, chemicals in beauty supplies and cleaning products, and scented candles, which can all release harmful chemicals. You can use houseplants and other methods of cleaning indoor air, and filter your drinking and shower water.
  • Not taking anything with Folic Acid: Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate that cannot be used by those with a MTHFR defect and which can be very toxic. Avoid any supplements with folic acid and only take L-MTHF forms, which are the methylated forms that my body can use. You can add a methyl-B12 which is supposed to help the body use L-MTHF.
  • Lots of Leafy Greens: Dark leafy greens contain the methylated forms of folate that those with a gene defect need. As if we needed more reasons that it is important to consume green veggies… J
  • Avoid Processed Foods: Again, as if anyone needed another reason to avoid processed foods… I call them Frankenfoods. Many processed foods have synthetic folic acid added.
  • Avoiding things that can block or deplete folate levels: Certain medications, including hormonal contraceptives can interfere with folate levels, and medicines like antacids can interfere with B-12 absorption.
  • Avoiding Heavy Metals: Heavy metals in diet or environment are harder to remove from the body for those with a gene defect, so be careful to avoid these.
  • Help a Body Out: Since those with a MTHFR defect have an impaired ability to eliminate toxins, do things to help support your body in this process, such as: detox baths, sauna use, drinking enough water, dry brushing skin and exercise (sweating). Some people like to add things like using detox mud shampoo, detoxing arm pits, and foot soaks.

Food for Thought

We all know we live in a very toxic world. We are bombarded daily with various toxins that can affect us to our cell level. There are approximately 80,000 toxic industrial chemicals in our environment: Electromagnetic fields (EMF’S)- contributors are electronics, and thousands of cell towers. Other toxins include: heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides, fuel exhaust, household chemicals, pharmaceuticals, BPA, GMO’s, and literally hundreds of additives in our foods. These all add oxidative stress to our bodies. Another word for oxidative stress is inflammation!!!
Glutathione, also known as GSH, has a lot of very important properties and functions that contribute to our health. The main function is to protect our cells from oxidative damage. GSH is considered the body’s master antioxidant and exists in almost every cell in our body. It is responsible for detoxification and free radical reduction. One of GSH’s many functions is to protect the cells from environmental and chemical toxins. GSH repairs our DNA and protects our cells from oxidative stress. It has the ability to recycle other antioxidants such as vitamins C & E, thus extending their antioxidant life.
We are able to mitigate some of these stresses via our choice of foods. Avocados, asparagus, squash, spinach, melons and raw dairy, and fermented vegetables contain a considerable amount of glutathione. These foods must be eaten raw since heat degrades GSH. Production of GSH requires some important and vitamins and minerals, that many times are deficient in our diets. They are Selenium, vitamin D, and magnesium. Selenium: Selenium rich foods are fish, grass fed meats, liver, pasture raised poultry and eggs, garlic and Brazil nuts.
Magnesium: Magnesium rich foods are fish, meat, seafood, apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, black eyed peas, black strap molasses, brewer’s yeast, cantaloupe, figs, garlic, grapefruit, green leafy vegetables, kelp, lemons, lima beans, nuts, peaches, salmon, bone broth and whole grains.
Vitamin D: Fish liver oils, fatty saltwater, fish, dairy products, eggs, butter, cod liver oil, dandelion greens, egg yolks, halibut, liver, milk, shiitake mushrooms, oatmeal, oysters, salmon, sardines, sweet potatoes, and tuna. The body produces GSH from three amino acids:Glycine, Cysteine, & Glutamic acid.
Glycine: Fish, meat, beans, and dairy. It is also found in high concentration in collagen from cartilage-rich bones from bone broth.

Cysteine: Raw eggs (farm fresh from pasture raised chickens), onions, garlic, cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli cauliflower, kale and cabbage.

Glutamic acid: meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy products.

Thousands of clinical studies published in the last few years provide convincing proof that depleted cellular and blood levels of glutathione (GSH) precede disease; high levels improve health and extend life! By eating foods to boost your GSH levels you can defend the body against free radicals, toxins, poisons, ionizing radiation, microorganism (including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites), emotional stress, physical stress, and premature aging.

Is It Allergies or a Cold?

Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference between allergies and the common cold. There are more than a hundred strains of cold viruses. Each tends to become widespread at certain times of the year, which is why you may mistake a cold for a seasonal allergy. Allergies occur at the same time every year and last as long as the allergen is in the air (usually 2-3 weeks per allergen). Allergies cause itching of the nose and eyes along with other nasal symptoms. Colds last about one week and have less itching of the nose and eyes.
One of the main contributors to fall allergies is the ragweed plant. A single plant can produce one billion pollen grains per season. Ragweed grows abundantly and its lightweight pollen grains can travel up to 400 miles in the wind. Ragweed can be found growing in vacant lots, along the road, and in open fields.
Outdoor molds are another cause of fall allergies. They first appear in early spring, but thrive until the first frost. They are common in soil, compost piles, and in the leaves that cover the ground during the fall. In temperate climates, mold spores form in mid to late fall, after ragweed season is over. Mold spores are common airborne allergens. They are light, very small, and easily inhaled into the lungs. Spores rise high in the atmosphere during the warming of the day, falling back to the ground with the cool of evening.
Another fall allergy is Cedar Fever.  As ironic as it sounds, cedar fever does not actually produce a fever.  In fact, cedar fever is a seasonal allergy brought on by an allergic reaction to the pollen from mountain cedar trees. Mountain cedar grows naturally and is the most allergenic tree in Texas. A few of those symptoms include runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, nasal blockage and sneezing. Some suffers also complain of fatigue, mild headache, facial discomfort, sore throat, partial loss of smell and the sensation of ear plugging. The small, light pollen granules can travel hundreds of miles, causing the pollen to spread and be inhaled by allergy sufferers. Cedar allergies affect many people from November through March, but the heaviest times of pollination occur in December, January and February.
These simple natural remedies have been very effective for allergy /sinus relief. Different people seem to benefit from different remedies, so it might be worth trying more than one of these to see which works best for you.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is an age old remedy that is often recommended for a variety of health conditions. The theory is that its ability to reduce mucous production and cleanse the lymphatic system makes it useful for allergies. It is also said to help digestion, weight loss and more so it is worth a try!  Mix a teaspoon of organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with “The Mother” into a glass of water and drank this three times a day.

2. Neti Pot and Saline Rinse
Neti Pots are ease to use and they remove pollen, mold, dust, mucus and other pollutants.  They also moisturize the nasal lining.  It is not habit forming and reduces symptoms caused by allergies, sinusitis, colds and exposure to pollution.
To use: Either use a pre-made saline rinse or make your own by dissolving 1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt in a quart of boiled distilled water. Cool completely and put in the Neti Pot. Pour through one nostril and let it drain out the other.
3. Quercetin
Quercetin is a natural bioflavonoid that is said to help stabilize mast cells (cells that release histamines) to keep them from releasing histamine. It is also a potent antioxidant that is said to help reduce inflammation. It is best used as a long term remedy and many people start taking it about 4-6 weeks before allergy season to help prevent allergy symptoms.
To Use: Though Quercetin is naturally found in foods like citrus and broccoli, it is very difficult to get the amount needed to relive allergies from food alone. A supplemental dose can be helpful for preventing allergies or helping acute symptoms. Not recommended during pregnancy or nursing though some practitioners feel it is safe after the first trimester and while nursing.
4. Nettle Leaf
Nettle leaf is another natural antihistamine that can be very effective as it naturally blocks the body’s ability to produce histamine. It grows in many places and can be made in to a tincture or tea, but for allergy relief, capsules made from dried nettle leaves are the easiest and most effective option.  Nettle leaf can also be used in combination with other herbs to make a soothing herbal tea for allergy relief. It is often mixed with peppermint leaf and sometimes red raspberry leaf to make a refreshing allergy relief tea.

5. Oregano Oil Spray
Oregano Oil Spray helps reduce inflammation in the respiratory tract from the nose to the lungs, and also is a natural anti-viral, anti-fungal and antibiotic.  Once inflammation begins it then allows the bad guys (bacteria, yeast, and viruses) to set up house and start reproducing.  Using the spray can help with allergies, a cold, or sinus infection and the inflammation that occurs with all three and stop an infection in its tracks.

6. Local Honey

There seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence from people who have tried honey for allergy issues.   The thought is that consuming local honey from where you live will help your body adapt to the allergens in the environment there. This is supposed to work like a natural allergy “shot” and doesn’t seem to have a downside. Take 1 tablespoon a day of raw, unprocessed local honey from as close to where you actually live as possible (within a 20 mile radius).  It is often suggested to start this a month or so before allergy.
7. Supplements such as “Texas Knows Allergy Relief”, “Rootology”,  “ALJ”, “HAS (stands for hay fever, allergy, and sinus), are highly effective with dealing with allergy issues.  At Eterna , we see a lot of great results with any one of these supplements listed, from #1 through #7.  So, come in and see us and let us help you with your allergy issues, and……..
